Anti-wrinkle injections Botox, fillers, PRP and Face Thread lifts

Botox, cosmetic fillers and other injectables are increasingly popular for treating wrinkles and expression lines.

Fillers

Rather than just smoothing or tightening skin, an injectable filler aims to change the facial profile to a more youthful one. The injection of filler materials under the skin can fill in deep folds, such as nasolabial folds, (running from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth), create fuller lips and pad out hollow cheeks and eyes. Collagen used to be the standard filler, but now hyaluronic acid with brand names like Juvederm, Restylane  are more popular.

How long do fillers last?

Hyaluronic acid fillers last six to 12 months; synthetic fillers such as Radiesse 12 to 18 months.

Do fillers hurt?

Anaesthetic is generally used, as the injections cause a sting for most.

What are the risks associated with fillers?

The most common side effects of fillers are bruising.

Anti-wrinkle injections

The anti-ageing properties of the botulinum toxin (sold as Botox and Dysport) When injected, they relaxes muscles, preventing skin from creasing and causing wrinkles. It’s effective for “expression lines”, such as frown and surprise lines on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes, and “turkey neck” – lines on the throat.

Does Botox hurt?

The pain has been described as similar to that of an ant bite, lasting for a few seconds.

How long does Botox last?

The effects of Botox facial injections typically last three to four months, but they can last longer with ongoing treatment.

Face Thread Lift

A thread lift is a form of non-surgical ‘mini’ facelift. A thread lift is a less severe or invasive form of facial skin lift, bringing facial skin backwards and upwards to give the impression of a more youthful skin tightness. This is particularly useful for sagging around the chin and jaw, laxity around the mouth, and for cheeks that may droop to make prominent jowls.

HOW IS A THREAD LIFT DIFFERENT TO FACELIFT SURGERY?

Facelift surgery is a very invasive procedure that actually cuts your skin and reattaches it to tighten skin. A thread lift merely uses what’s already there and lifts it, providing surgery-free facelifts. This may suit many people far better than facelift surgery.

HOW IS A THREAD LIFT PERFORMED?

A Thread Lift is performed using a type of thread known as PD, PLLA and COG.

The Thread Lift is a treatment which lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue, using threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO). The threads introduces them into the deeper layers of the skin. Once introduced, the threads produce 3 effects in the skin:

  • Instant Skin Lifting through mechanical effects
  • Cellular Renewel, through Collagen stimulation, and neovascularisation to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity
  • Skin Tightening, by contracting fat tissue

The lifted facial contours will remain for about 12 months, due to the cellular rejuvenation effects. Your skin cells are stimulated to produce new collagen, and new blood vessels to improve skin microcirculation. At the same time, the threads cause the fat tissue to contract, producing a skin tightening and facial slimming effect.

RECOVERY TIME FOR A THREAD LIFT

You can resume normal daily activities the day after your thread lift. Some bruising and swelling is normal.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF A THREAD LIFT?

The thread lift is generally thought to be safe, well tolerated and recovery tends to be swift and relatively painless.
