Platelet Rich Plasma

You now have the option to utilise your own biological cells to rejuvenate your skin, this technique is called ‘Regen Lab PRP’. (Platelet Rich Plasma)

Platelets found in your own blood provide an abundance of nutrient rich cells such as growth factors. These help in the healing process, attract stem cells to then produce new skin and collagen. Which gives us the desired anti aging effect to the skin.

This treatment is ideal for people wishing to improve texture of the skin, such as crepey necks, backs of the hands, and to restore a natural radiance to the face. Although this proc-ess does not fill deep wrinkles like a ‘filler’ does, it does produce new collagen which in turn may cause wrinkles and fine lines to reduce.

FAQ's

How many treatments will I need?
It would depend on your degree of skin aging and your expectations. As the success of the treatment is totally dependant on the quality of your own cells, PRP treatment is Not recommended for smokers, moderate to heavy alcohol drinkers or those with blood disease or low platelet count. It is suggested to have at least 2 or 3 treatments about 4-6 weeks apart. Please discuss this with your doctor or nurse.

What can I expect after one treatment?
Some initial swelling, which will subside after 12-24 hours. Results are usually evident after 2- 3 weeks, as it takes several months for collagen to fully form and the changes to become visible at the skin level. Skin often looks more radiant after just one treatment, and will continue to improve over the ensuing months. Individual results will vary.

How long will it last?
As the cosmetic application of PRP is only a few years old, suggestions are that results would likely last 6 – 12 Months, up to several years if you have a top up treatment. Some variation is to be expected as everyone's cells are different.

How do they process my platelet rich plasma, and where does it come from?
Your own blood is collected in a specially designed tube called a THT (Thrombin harvest-ing tube), this tubes contains a unique gel called ‘REGEN Lab gel’, this acts as a filter to separate out the red blood cells from the rest of the blood content. Then your blood is spun down in a machine called a centrifuge, this spinning causes the platelet rich plasma portion of your blood to rise to the top of the collection tube. This volume of plasma and platelets collected here is what will be used to rejuvenate your skin. Nothing else is added to your cells except a tiny amount of anti-coagulant to enable the doctor or nurse time to treat you.

How do I know if my cells are good enough quality to use?
Your doctor or nurse can assist with analysing this in your consultation. The doctor or nurse can order a blood test to determine if you have any platelet dysfunction you may not be aware of.

How long has this process been around, and what else has it been used for?
Platelet rich plasma has a long history of safe use in burns units, for dental implants, for vascular and diabetic ulcers and for speeding healing to surgical wounds following surgery. The technique has been practiced in a number of countries around the world including: Africa, USA, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and Australia. It is now available in New Zealand.
